Transport Layer Adaptable Rate Control (TARC): Analysis of a Transport Layer Flow Control Mechanism for High Speed Networks

چکیده
The rapid growth of today's emerging high-speed networks has made currently implemented transport layer flow control techniques inadequate for the performance levels required now and in the future. Throughput at the upper layers is throttled due to architectural designs tailored to "last-generation" technologies. We define and analyze a transport layer flow control algorithm featuring hybrid open-loop/feedback-based rate control with burst detection for a connection-oriented transport layer protocol. TARC can be used alone or in conjunction with a window flow control mechanism. It can provide support for QoS guarantees, and can take advantage of lower layer congestion control or bandwidth underutilization information. We analyze our model under multiple transport connections with bursty traffic and present an iterative method for computing system state distributions and performance measures. Using this iterative analysis, we explore the behavior of TARC and compare its performance to other transport layer flow control algorithms.

A Framework of Flow Control in High-speed Atm Wide Area Networks
In this paper, we propose a two-layer framework of jlow control in high-speed A TM wide area networks. At the upper layer of network level, we classify trafic into two categories, delaysensitive and delay-insensitive. With the advancement of perVC queueing in ATM switch design, we propose peak-rate allocation and therefore no jlow control for delay-sensitive traffic, and hop-by-hop credit-based...
متن کاملDesign of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...

A one dimensional isothermal mathematical modeling of cathode side of a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell is developed for the water management problem. Water transport is investigated in both cathode Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) and membrane through solving appropriate equations for fluid flow and mass transport in GDL and water transport within the membrane. The gaseous mixture flowing in...
متن کاملTransport layer issues in ad hoc wireless networks
Induced traffic: Ad hoc wireless networks use multi-hop radio relaying, and a link-level transmission affects neighbor nodes of both sender and receiver of the link. This induced traffic affects throughput of the transport layer protocol. Induced throughput unfairness: Some MAC protocols, like IEEE 802.11 DCF, may add throughput unfairness to the transport layer. A transport layer protocol need...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
